An erudite scholar on Jagannath cult and Bhanja literature, Rajat Kar receives Padmashree this year

Bhubaneswar, Jan 27: An erudite preacher and scholar on Jagannath culture and Bhanja literature Dr Rajat Kumar Kar has won Padmashree award this year. Born in Cuttack town to Kulamani Kar and Indumani Kar, Rajat graduated from Utkal University and later passed out from Asian Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi. Starting his profession as a teacher, Dr. Kar retired as Director of State Council of Education Research and Training(SCERT) spending his entire career for reform in education. Post retirement,Dr Kar has been devoting his life for literature. His book published in 1953 namely ‘Kabisamrat’ is a study on the literary works of Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja, a medieval poet. Odisha University of Culture had presented him a doctoral degree for his outstanding contribution towards Odia literature,culture and contemporary society. Dr Kar is known world-wide for propagating the Jagannath Culture. His live commentary at the time of world famous Car Festival is commendable.
