74 bonded labouers rescued from being taken to Vishakhapatnam

Kantabanji, Dec 2: Police rescued as many as 74 bonded labourers, including 32 women and 13 children, when they were about to be transported to Vishakhapatnam from Kantabanji railway station in Balangir district late Tuesday night. Acting on a tip-off, Kantabanji police with the help of Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted a raid at Kantabanji railway station and rescued the labourers. The investigation revealed that the labourers are from Belpada, Bangomunda, Muribahal and Turekela block in Balangir district and Golamunda block in Kalahandi district. Police said a middleman was taking them to Vishakhapatnam to engage them at a brick kiln paying them Rs 30,000 advance per head. The middleman managed to flee from the spot during the raid.
