Bhubaneswar, Oct 4: As many as 143 acres of land belonging to Lord Lingaraj Temple Trust have been recorded back in the temple trust. However, around 140 acres of land are encroached by commercial establishments and residential apartments in the posh areas of the city. During the 31-year-long legal battle, powerful people have fraudulently changed records of many patches of land of the endowment properties in different mouzas in Bhubaneswar and on the city outskirts. Most of the endowment properties were in Bhimapur and Kapilaprasad mouza and other properties were in Sundarpada, Bhubaneswar, Goutam Nagar, Badagada, and Rajarani mouza under the Bhubaneswar tehsil. Around 35-acre land has been recorded back to Lord Lingaraj Temple Trust in Kapilaprasad mouza adjoining Bhimatangi Housing Board Colony. During the filing of the petition, the housing board colony was under construction covered with mango and jackfruit orchard. During the last 31 years, it has developed into a posh area of the city. Builders have erected multi-story buildings in some areas of the endowment property and sold people's lands by plotting with road facilities by the local civic body. Besides, around 34-acre of land in Bhimapur mouza adjoining Airport Colony and New Forest Park area has been encroached by powerful people. Similarly, around 90 percent of land of Shukuteswar Temple premises has been encroached by people by erecting huge commercial and residential buildings. Notably, Member, Board of Revenue, G V V Sarma last Thursday directed to record back the land to the temple trust after the final hearing of the case. The said 143 acres of land of Lord Lingaraj was identified in Kapilaprasad, Bhimapur, Sundarpada, Bhubaneswar, Goutam Nagar, Badagada, and Rajarani mouza under the Bhubaneswar tehsil. The lands were taken to government possession under the Orissa Estates Abolition (Amendment) Act, 1974. Then CEO of Lord Lingaraj Temple Trust, Jitendra Patnaik had filed a case before the Endowment Commissioner in 1991. The case was later sent to the court of Member, Board of Revenue.
