New Delhi, Nov 3 : As many as 110 countries, including India, Brazil, China, Russia and the United States, pledged for ‘No Deforestation till 2030’ on Tuesday at the global climate talks in Glasgow. The world leaders have sought to preserve forests for absorbing carbon dioxide and slowing the rise in global warming that leads to climate change. Prime Minister of India joined his hands up with the global climatic measures and declared that not a single tree will be fallen from the forest till 2030. The countries’ declaration said, transformative further action accompanied by several measures intended to fight carbon emission can check up global warming and the climate change in turn. Britain Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, the deforestation agreement at an event on Tuesday morning attended by President Biden and the president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo is a revolutionary step ahead of alarming climate change. The pact encompasses about 85 percent of the world’s forests, he added. “These great teeming ecosystems — these cathedrals of nature — are the lungs of our planet,” Mr. Johnson said. Mr. Biden said he would work with Congress to deploy up to $9 billion to the global effort through 2030. “Preserving forests and other ecosystems can and should play an important role in meeting our ambitious climate goals,” Mr. Biden said. Additionally, governments committed $12 billion and private companies pledged $7 billion to protect and restore forests in a variety of ways, including $1.7 billion for Indigenous peoples. More than 30 financial institutions also vowed to stop investing in companies responsible for deforestation. A new set of guidelines offers a path toward eliminating deforestation from supply chains.
