Bhubaneswar, Sep 14: Due to incessant rain, at least 10 districts in Odisha received over 200mm rainfall in the last two days, informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena on Tuesday. All districts, except Nabarangpur, have received more than normal rainfall. Odisha’s average rainfall in past 2 days is estimated at 156mm, said Jena. Astarang, Kakatpur and Birmaharajpur blocks have recorded highest rainfall of over 500mm. As many as 56 blocks have received about 200-300mm rainfall in the last two days. He said four persons have died so far due to rain-related incidents. Jena, however, said that there is no major flood threat for the state. Jena further informed that the water at Hirakud reservoir is presently at 626.05 metre. As the Deep Depression has weakened into a depression over north Chhattisgarh, rainfall is expected in Chhattisgarh. Chief Engineer of Hirakud Dam, Anand Chandra Sahu said Hirakud Dam authorities are likely to open 6 sluice gates at 5PM today to release excess water owing to heavy rains in upper catchment areas.
