Bhubaneswar: The World AIDS Day is being observed across Odisha today with various awareness rallies and meetings organised by various Government organisations and NGOs
A marathon involving social activists and students was taken out from Shishu Bhavan square to the Raj Bhavan. Similarly, awareness meetings were held on this year’s them ‘Know Your Status’ at different places, including Jayadev Bhavan, in the capital city.
Apart from members of social organisations, many students were seen making people aware against the killer disease.
According to reports, over 46,000 AIDS patients are residing in different parts of the State. Ganjam district has the highest percentage of AIDS patients. Now, the number of AIDs patients are on the decline in the State, claim Government sources.
While it is expected that the number of HIV-infected patients would reach 67,000 by 2022, various preventive measures along with awareness programmes have been undertaken by the Governments, said reports.
