Woman posing as IPS officer arrested for second time in Odisha

Rourkela, Aug 19: A woman posing as an IPS officer has been arrested on charges of cheating an impersonation, police said today. The accused identified as Sharmistha Behera, a resident of Dhamnagar area of Bhadrak district was arrested by the Udit Nagar police station. As per reports, the accused impersonating herself as an IPS officer had visited a bullet showroom located in Basanti Colony. She later purchased a bullet worth Rs 1.9 lakh on loan through a finance company. The manager of the vehicle showroom, however, raised suspicion on her activity and later lodged a police complaint. The accused was earlier arrested in April in Bhubaneswar for allegedly impersonating herself as an IPS officer and instructing low-grade cops to supply her essential and non-essential commodities during the lockdown in Bhubaneswar. She had introduced herself as an IPS officer of 2018-batch and claimed to have been posted at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy in Bhubaneswar.
