Wife of Odisha IAS arrested on graft charges raises question on Vigilance investigation

Bhubaneswar, Jan 17: Wife of IAS officer Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya, who was arrested on December 30 for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 1 lakh today alleged that her husband of being implicated in a false case. Tushima Mishra, wife of the 2009- batch IAS officer posted as the Director of Horticulture also alleged the investigating agency of delaying the submission of case diary with vested interest. “The vigilance searched our house but did not find anything. The investigating agency also failed to find any incriminating documents during the raid. Besides the claim of the vigilance that my husband has opted private bank for deposit of government money was bogus as he had done the same as per the government guidelines. He has not deposited the money in his personal account,” she said.    Upadhyaya is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs one lakh from a company through Santosh Kumar Pattanayak, relationship manager of  a Bhubaneswar based private bank for release of a bill of Rs 50 lakh. Vigilance sleuths have also arrested the bank official. The Odisha government has also suspended the bureaucrat on the day he was arrested.
