Bhubaneswar, May 4: Amid the strong resentment among the residents of the state capital city after it was reclassified as Red Zone after two days the state government today came out with a clarification that it was done as per the Central guidelines. Special Relief Commisssioner P K Jena who is in charge of disaster management in the state today said that as per the Central government’s guideline Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area has 15 active COVID-19 positive cases of which one was detected recently. “This calls for its classification as Red Zone,” said he. On May 1 Bhubaneswar which falls under Khordha district was declared as an Orange Zone , after the Government of India came out with a fresh notification following its decision to extend the deadline by two more weeks. However, Bhubaneswar was later classified under Red Zone in the list prepared by the state government. This has triggered a lot of heart burning among the denizens of the capital city as its neighbouring Cuttack city has been classified as Green Zone and enjoys several relaxations like opening of liquor shops and operation of public transport service.Following the Ministry of Home Affairs order, the Odisha government on Sunday extended the lockdown in the entire state for a further period of two weeks and laid down guidelines for strict implementation with effect from May 4 to May 17.
