Bhubaneswar: Some villagers of Rajgangpur area in Sundargarh district are suspected to have killed and buried a female elephant in a nearby jungle five days back.
On being informed by reliable sources, forest officials have dug out the carcass from the Sunakhandi Luhakhan jungle. They have also initiated a process for conducting an autopsy on it.
Meanwhile, three persons of the locality have been detained and questioned in connection the incident, said reports.
It is learnt that the wild elephant had entered into a human habitation and destroyed crops. Expecting no action from forest officials, villagers took law into their hands and killed the jumbo to save their properties.
