Puri, June 29: The Vigilance officials of Bhubaneswar division on Sunday caught red-handed the amin of Astaranga RI office in Puri district while accepting illegal gratification of Rs 8,000.
The accused has been identified as Prafulla Kumar Behera, the amin of Astaranga Revenue Inspector (RI) office.
According to reports, the arrested amin had demanded Rs 8,000 from one Sarbeswar Ojha of Sana Nayapalli village under the block to process the file for file for release of compensation amount of Rs,95,000/- towards damage of his house during cyclone.
Later, Ojha alerted the vigilance department and accordingly a trap was laid today. The accused amin was caught red-handed by the officers of Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division in the office of RI, Astaranga while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.8,000.
The bribe money was also recovered from the possession of Behera and seized in presence of witnesses.
Both hands wash of Behera as well as wash of his pant pocket gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
The house where his family members are staying at Puri town is being searched.
Behera has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.
