Bhubaneswar: As a parting gift to his alma mater, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has donated one year’s salary to Utkal University here.
The Union Minister on Sunday also advised university Vice Chancellor Prof Soumendra Mohan Patnaik to open an alumni association fund to receive the donations from alumni for the development of the university.
The Union Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Utkal University here in the presence of Odisha Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo.
Addressing the gathering Pradhan said, “The university which has turned 75 occupies a prominent place in the history of Odisha. It has produced many leaders, bureaucrats, litterateurs and entrepreneurs and it is now up to the alumni to give back to the alma mater.”
He also promised to ensure setting up a modern auditorium in the university.
“I am who I am today is due to the university. It is my moral responsibility to give back something to my alma mater,” said the Union Minister.
He also highlighted as to how being an Anthropology student helped him remain connect with culture and traditions.
