Bolangir: In an apparent loot bid, three unidentified miscreants allegedly opened fire at the manager of Utkal Gramya Bank’s Bijepur branch near Titilagarh in Bolangir district today.
Branch manager Kailash Chandra Dora sustained bullet injuries on his stomach. He was initially rushed to Titilagarh health centre and later shifted to district headquarters hospital.
The miscreants first discussed with the manager about availability of loans and its guidelines. Later, they requested the manager to open a saving account with the branch. The manager asked them come tomorrow as time to deal with account opening is over for the day.
Later, they entered his chamber and asked to open the locker. As he resisted, they opened three rounds of fire in which he was grievously injured.
The miscreants fled the spot soon after committing the crime. It has not yet been known whether they loot cash from the bank.
Police rushed to the spot and questioned bank staff and others. All the entry and exit point of the town has been sealed to nab the criminals, police said. Investigation is on.
