New Delhi, Feb 27: A delegation of Congress leaders, including party’s interim president Sonai Gandhi, Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Priyanka Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad and AK Antony on Thursday meet President Ram Nath Kovind over the communal violence in Northeast Delhi.

The Congress members also handed over demands to President Kovind in memorandum.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the President, Sonai said,” We handed over demands to President Kovind in memorandum, Centre and Delhi govt were mute spectators to violence. Violence has taken lives of 34 people; businesses have fallen prey to looting.”

Congress also urged President Kovind to call for removal of Union Home Minister and accused Amit Shah of abdication of duty.

“We urged president to use his power to protect ‘rajdharma’,” said former PM Singh.

On Wednesday, the Congress president (interim) also held a press conference in Delhi over the incident and had demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Shah alleging that the Centre had not done enough to curb the menace in the national capital.
