Tyre killers to be installed in Odisha capital to prevent wrong side driving

Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: In a bid to tackle menace of wrong side driving, Commissionerate police has decided to install tyre killers in the state capital. Police sources said that the spike barrier will be introduced near Esplande Mall in Rasulgarh area in the city on pilot basis. Commissionerate police has earlier identified 32 vulnerable spots on total 242 wrong-side points in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar Tyre killers are metal strips installed on roads with sharp spikes on one side. “These act as speed breakers for those in the correct lane, while the tyres of vehicles in the wrong lane get punctured instantly,” said a police official. Earlier in 2018, Pune had become the first city to install the tyre killers but they were removed following safety concerns.
