Puri: Puri police today detained two youths for allegedly attacking Bikram Acharya, a journalist working with leading Odisha daily ‘The Prameya’ near Beleswarpatna in Puri on Saturday.
They are now being interrogated.
The unidentified miscreants attacked Acharya had gone to report an accident near Beleswarpatna on Puri-Konark marine drive.
Sources said when Bikram was taking photographs of the accident scene, five miscreants attacked him with wooden plank. As a result, Bikram sustained injuries on his head, chest and ear. He was rescued by the Marine police station officials and admitted to Sadar hospital here.
Sources added that the miscreants targeted Acharya as he regularly writes on criminal elements and activities in Beleswarpatna area.
Earlier on January 26, Kapilendra Pradhan- working with The Prameya in Bhubaneswar was also attacked by a group of youths in a cinema hall when he spoke out against their objectionable remarks at women inside the hall.
Saheed Nagar Police also arrested three persons on charges of assaulting Pradhan.
Recently, a circulation manager of a newspaper was also killed by miscreants and another journalist was attacked by miscreants in Pattamundai in Kendrapara district crating a panic among journalists.
