Two arrested for elephant poaching in Odisha, tusks seized

Subarnapur, Feb 9: Forest officials have arrested two poachers for poaching of an elephant in Sarasadadar forest under the Ullunda forest range in the district in November. The accused have been identified as Surendra Karna and Kalia Karna. Forest officials have seized two tusks weighing 3 kilograms from the accused. Forest officials have also seized the vehicle used in the crime. A carcass of an elephant was found without its tusks from Sarasadadar forest under the Ullunda forest range. Subsequently two forest officials Janardan Swain Prgnya Paramita Mishra were suspended for dereliction of duty. Earlier the forest department had arrested five persons in connection with the poaching of the elephant.
