Twin-city witnesses growing business of love this Valentine’s Week

Bhubaneswar, Feb 10: With the ongoing Valentine’s Week, from flower vendors e-commerce platforms are witnessing a pickup in sales in the week leading to February 14. Flower sellers in twin-city Cuttack and Bhubaneswar witnessed a high jump in sales on Friday, the day 1 of Valentine’s week. As per Valentine tradition February 7 is known as Rose Day. And, demand for red roses skyrocketed on Friday. A single red rose, which is generally sold at Rs 10 in the twin-city, were sold at Rs 25-30 on Friday by roadside vendors. We generally sell a red rose at Rs 10 but we sold at Rs 25-30 on Friday evening because of the rise in demand and decrease in supply, said Kanhu Das of a roadside flower shop at Daragha Bazaar in Cuttack. Even branded players are doing very good business in Bhubaneswar city. Ferns N Petals Saheed Nagar store manager Debu said the outlet recorded around Rs 2.5 lakh flower business on Rose Day. The manager also expects a good sale in the remaining days of the Valentine’s week. The store is witnessing higher sale this year than previous years, he added. Retailers are also witnessing a rise in demand of gifts, especially for toys, chocolates, teddy bears. Leading e-commerce platforms are also offering discounts up to 70 percent on daily use and customised gift items like watches, fashion jewelries, candles, decors, handbags, books, wallets and collectables. Demand for jewelry, especially the ones with artificial diamond and silver, has also increased and major jewelry shops in the twin-city have started throwing special offers.
