Tusker kills minor girl, destroys houses in Odisha

Keonjhar, Jan 11: A wild tusker last evening entered Hariharpur village under Saharpada block in the district and killed a 10-year-old minor girl besides destroying several houses, causing panic in the region. The pachyderm entered into human habitations in the evening and destroyed several houses in Medinipur, Bhandaribila, Gulundipashi, Tulasipur and Dumuridiha villages under Panta range. {"id":23743,"sizeSlug":"large"} The animal also ate away rice and grains stored in the houses. The tusker had also entered into several villages under the range on Thursday night and destroyed many houses. {"id":23744,"sizeSlug":"large"} People are living in a state of terror due to move of the wild elephant into human habitations in night and preferring to remain inddors before sunset. Irate over the death of the minor girl, locals resorted to protest and blocked National Highway 220 near Barbil demanding compensation. The protesters accused that police forcefully took away body of the deceased minor when no family members were present.
