Tursker Chandan dies in Nandankanan Zoo

Bhubaneswar: Much to the worry of animal lovers, a male elephant died of “abdominal” disease in the Nandan Zoological Park early this morning.

According to reports, the tusker, ‘Chandan’, was undergoing treatment for abdominal pain for the last two day. But it died this morning. Chandan was the lone male elephant in the zoo.

Chandan had been brought from Chandaka Dampada jungle in 2010 when he was only 28 days’ old. After Chandan’s death, the number of pachyderms had now decreased to 6 only and they are all females.

The death of Chandan has shocked animal lovers and visitors of the zoo.
