Bhubaneswar: Gajapati district has witnessed maximum damages followed by Ganjam due to the severe cyclonic storm ‘Titli’ that made landfall near Palasa under Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh between 4.30 am and 5.30 am today i.e October 11, 2018.
Thatched and asbestos-roofed houses have been severely damaged and trees and electric polls uprooted in the two districts, said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi.
The SRC said flood situation has not arisen anywhere due to rains caused by the cyclonic storm, Titli. He said 1112 relief centres have been opened to provide relief to affected people.
As many as three lakh people have been shifted from low lying areas of coastal districts, including Gajapati and Ganjam, he said.
The cyclone is now heading towards West Bengal, causing heavy rains in Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri districts.
According to latest reports, the speed of surface wind blow is now declining and the Title would weaken after noon today.
