Tigress Sundari mauls woman to death

Angul: A woman was allegedly killed after being mauled by a tigress at Hatibari under Tikarapada range in Satkosia forest in Angul district today.

The deceased was identified as Kailashi Sai. Sources said tigress Sundari attacked the woman when she was taking bath in a pond.

Sources said the woman had gone to take bath in the village pond today morning. As she did not return for quite some time, villagers searched for her in and around the village only to find her body lying in a nearby jungle.

Meanwhile, the angry locals gheraoed the forest beat house alleging inefficiency of the forest department.

The 27-month-old Royal Bengal tigress Sundari was relocated to Satkosia from Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh as part of the State Government’s initiative to revive the big cat population in the State on August 17.

The villagers alleged that the tigress had strayed into their village yesterday.
