Bhubaneswar: At least 11 districts have been put on thunderstorm and lightning alert between 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm today.
“Moderate thunderstorm with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph with lightning and light to moderate rainfall likely to occur at some places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Sambalpur between 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm,” warned the latest IMD bulletin.
People of these districts have been advised to remain alert to during the warning period to avert any eventuality.
In comparison with other natural calamities that cause more economic losses, the death toll due to lightning is much higher in Odisha. As many as 456 human lives have been lost during the year 2017-18 due to lightning, which records a 15 per cent increase over that in 2016-17.
