Three arrested for consuming liquor in COVID-19 isolation ward in Puri

Bhubaneswar, Apr 6: The Puri district’s Krushnaprasad police on Monday arrested three persons including a Panchayat Samiti Member for allegedly consuming alcohol in a temporary coronavirus disease (COVID-19) isolation ward.

The Puri district administration had suspended a Panchayat Executive Officer, Guru Soumya Ranjan Behera, for his alleged negligence and dereliction of duty.

The arrested were identified as Uttam Tarei (Panchayat Samiti Member), Kalu Jena and Dhira Palei and of Nuapada gram panchayat under the Krushnaprasad police limits.

“We came to know about their illegal from a video clip that went viral. Upon verification, it was found to be true. Later, the Krushnaprasad Tehsildar lodged a complaint with the local police,” said DRDA Project Director Vishal Singh.
