Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra today said that those who had fielded Bed Prakash Agarwalla, who died today after a prolonged illness, to contest the elections did not do justice to the veteran leader.
“He was unwell even before declaration of the election schedule. He was also undergoing treatment for last three months. I would say despite being hospitalised for three months, those who fielded him didn’t do justice to him,” said Mohapatra.
BJD had fielded Agarwalla from the Patkura Assembly segment while Mohapatra was the BJP candidate from the same segment.
Now, as per the guidelines, elections to the Patkura Assembly constituency will be countermanded. But polls for Kendrapara Lok Sabha seat will be held as usual.
The Election Commission of India will notify the fresh schedule.
A sitting MLA, 83-year-old Agarwalla was undergoing treatment in a private hospital here for last few months and passed away this morning.
