Tension over local's death in elephant attack; woman forest guard manhandled

Kuchinda, 4/12: Tension erupted in Kuchinda area today following death of a person in elephant attack. The irate mob manhandled the local forest guard Tapaswini Rout and also beat her up, as revealed from a video which has gone viral. However, no complaint has been lodged in the police station about death in elephant attack and the subsequent mob violence. According to report, a local named as Cibil Ekka had died following elephant attack on Dumermunda- Mahulmunda road under Garposh section of Bamra wildlife division on Sunday evening. After coming to know about the incident the next day morning, locals assembled and alleged that negligence of the forest officials was responsible for Ekka’s death. They demanded adequate compensation as well as a government job to one of the members of bereaved family. Infuriated over the alleged apathy of local forest officials, the mob allegedly manhandled the local forest guard Tapaswini Rout and even beat her up. Bamra divisional forest officer (DFO) said the local forest guard had informed the police. However, police said they had not received any complaint in the police station.
