Tension at Lingaraj Temple as Cong, BJP oppose eviction

Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at the Lord Lingaraj Temple here as different political parties protested the eviction drive being undertaken at the 11th Century shrine without rehabilitating shoppers and vendors.

According to reports, Congress activists led by Jatni MLA and BJP workers led by its vice-president Sameer Mohanty have sat on dharnas in front of the temple, opposing demolition of shops and a mandap.

They have all demanded that the vendors, who had been earning their bread and butter by running various kinds of shops, should be rehabilitated before eviction.

As tension prevails, adequate numbers of police personnel have been deployed to ensure that no untoward incident occurs there.
