Tension at Basudebpur as man dies consuming spurious liquor

Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high in Parapokhari area under Basudevpur police limits in Bhadrak district as locals blocked road in protest against death of a villager allegedly due to consumption of spurious liquor last night.

The deceased was identified as Narayan Nayak.

According to reports, Narayan had bought liquor from a trader who was selling liquor in Parapokhari village. Soon after he consumed liquor, Narayan fell ill and started vomiting. Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital where he died during treatment.

Demanding stopping of illegal sale of liquor and adequate compensation for the deceased’s family, villagers blocked the Dhamra-Jamujhari road by burning tyres. Vehicular movement was stopped for hours. Police were trying to pacify the mob, said reports.
