Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today appointed Padma Shri sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik as the new president of Lalit Kala Akademi. He was replaced stone sculpture Raghunath Mohapatra.
In July, President Ram Nath Kovind nominated sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra to Rajya Sabha.
The reputed artist has participated in several international sand art championships and festivals around the world and has won many prizes and recognition for his social messages through the art.
Pattnaik, the internationally-acclaimed sand sculptor, first took to sand art by sculpting structures on the beach when he was only seven.
Most of Pattnaik’s sculptures portray current world issues such as environmental crisis, famous festivals, national integration and religious tolerance and human interests.
