Bhubaneswar: Construction work for the proposed port at Subarnarekha river mouth will begin from October, informed Commerce and Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu here today.

The Minister said the project will come up at a cost Rs 4,000 crore. He said that the land acquisition process has been completed for the purpose. A total of 962 acres of land are required for the proposed project.

Notably, the Defence Ministry had given its conditional clearance for construction of a port on Subarnarekha river mouth on the Bay of Bengal in Balasore district as the proposed port project is located close to the integrated test range site of the Ministry at Chandipur.

Earlier, the Defence Ministry had certain objections to the project.
