Bhubaneswar: Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat today accepted the resignation of Koraput Congress MLA Krishna Chandra Sagaria.

Sagaria, who on October 30 announced to resign from the membership of the State Assembly, submitted his resignation letter to Amat on November 6 owing moral responsibility for his failure to ensure justice to Kunduli ‘gangrape-suicide’ victim.

On October 1, Sagaria had also stepped down from the post of party’s general secretary. He, however, clarified that he would not quit Congress.

He said that he was deeply pained over the injustice meted out to the 14-year-old tribal girl from Kunduli area who had alleged that she was gang-raped by four unknown security personnel on October 10 last year in Maoist-hit Koraput district.

However, in December, the police, citing medical reports, ruled out rape. Unable to bear the trauma and injustice meted out to her, she hanged herself to death on January 22 this year. Sagaria had alleged that the State Government did nothing to ensure justice to the tribal girl and instead made a mockery of the girl’s plight.
