Mumbai, April 16: Hours after Tweeter suspended the account of Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel singer Sona Mohapatra defended the latter and said she stood by the rights to express.
Taking to Twitter the singer said, “Just read on my timeline that the ‘Rangoli Chandel-Kangana Ranaut’ handle has been suspended by @twitter? While I might not subscribe to all their views,I also stand by their right to express them.Let’s not be so ‘politically correct’ & quick to be offended dear #WokeSabha.”
“I have friends & well-wishers sending me their opinion on the same & trying to tell me to think differently. Here’s the thing, I don’t follow Rangoli Chandel’s handle & have been personally vilified by her in the past too. I feel this for a number of reasons,” she added in another Tweet.
Rangoli’s account on the micro-blogging website now stands suspended, though a snapshot of her original tweet that kicked off the controversy is still doing the rounds online.
She reportedly posted what is being considered as hate tweets aimed at a community from her blue tick handle, @Rangoli_ , which prompted the suspension of account.
This post follows Rangoli’s history of sharing tweets that have been widely criticised for inciting hate.
Following the tweet that led to Rangoli’s account being suspended, filmmaker Reema Kagti wrote to Mumbai Police demanding action.
