Access to sufficient amount of safe and nutritious food was stressed at a programme organised to observe the first-ever World Food Safety Day in the SOA Deemed to be University here on Friday.
The observance of World Food Safety Day followed a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018. This year’s theme has been ‘Food Safety, everyone’s business’.
The programme was organised at the School of Hotel Management, SOA’s faculty of hospitality and tourism management, with its Advisor cum Dean Dr. Sitikantha Mishra underlining the fact that access to sufficient amount of safe and nutritious food was the key to promoting good health.
Food safety was also the key to achieving several UN Sustainable Development Goals and a shared responsibility between governments, food producers and consumers.
Everybody has a role to play from the farm to table to ensure that the food consumed was safe and would not adversely affect anyone’s health, Dr. Mishra, who also administered a pledge to work for attaining the goals for safe food for all to the faculty and other staff of the institute on the occasion, said.
The pledge said that all should ensure that the poor and vulnerable population had sufficient amount of safe and nutritious food to promote good health.
