Bhubaneswar, Sep 28: With a vision of slum-free cities under JAGA Mission, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated ‘Slum Upgradation Programme’ to transform 2919 slums in the state.
The CM launched the programme from Balasore through video conferencing at the Lok Seva Sadan.
Inaugurating the slum upgradation programme, Naveen announced that all the slums will be transformed into model colonies in the next three years.
“Slum dwellers contribute immensely to development of urban space. Their welfare is a priority of government,” Naveen said.
The CM started distribution of Land Entitlement Certificates 1,05,000 people which will be expanded to 4.5 lakh in 101 municipalities.
Besides, An MoU was signed between State Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Department and Delhi-based Centre for Policy Research (CPR) during the occasion. The CPR will support JAGA Mission as knowledge partner. It will also ensure integration of slums into city fabric and development of living space for urban poor.
The CM also dedicated 116 Multi-Purpose Community Centres ‘Parichaya’ for slum dwellers.
