Silver in Asian Games 2018: Sunita, Namita, Lilima and Deep to get Rs 1 crore each

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced cash reward of Rs 1 crore each to Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz and Deep Grace Ekka after the Women’s National Hockey Team won the Silver in Asian Games 2018.

He also announced that the coach will get an award equivalent to 20 per cent of the reward for medal winners.

On Friday, the CM felicitated sprinter Dutee Chand and presented Rs 3 crore for winning double silver in the Asian Games 2018. He said that the State will support her Olympics Tokyo-2020 preparations.

Chand had won two silver medals, one in Women’s 100-m race and another in 200-m race in the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta.

Patnaik had announced cash awards of Rs 3 crore (Rs 1.5 crore for each medal).

She crossed the finishing line in 23.20 seconds in 200 meters, behind Bahrain’s Edidiong Odiong who clinched the gold in 22.96. The bronze went to China’s Wei Yongli (23.27). It has been an excellent performance by the 22-year-old sprinter who was not allowed to compete in 2014-15 under the IAAF’s hyperandrogenism policy due to which she missed the 2014 Commonwealth and Asian Games.

And she clocked 11:32 seconds, a tad below her national record of 11:29 seconds to win the silver medal in 100 meters event. It was India’s first medal in 20 years in this event. Bahrain athlete Odiong Edidiong won gold in 11:30 seconds while Wei Yongli of China settled for bronze in 11:33 seconds.
