Dhenkanal: A special court today allowed Dhenkanal police to take Fayaz Rahman, accused of sexually abusing minor girls in the shelter home run by him illegally, on two-day remand.
Though police sought three-day custody of Rahman, court granted two days for grilling.
Rahman, the founder and chairman of Good News India, was arrested on Sunday on charges of sexually harassing minor girls in a shelter home run by his organisation at Beltikiri near district headquarters.
Besides Rahman, two other persons – Simanchal Nayak, in-charge of the shelter home, was also taken into custody. There were similar allegations against Nayak too.
On Sunday, the Dream Centre shelter home run by the Good News India was sealed in in the wake of allegations of sexual abuse by its minor inmates.
The action came two days after District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Anuradha Goswami and members of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) raided the shelter home, acting on media reports which stated that minor girls were being abused sexually, physically and mentally at the facility.
