Several rivers on the rise, but no flood threat to Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: Even as the water level in several rivers is on the rise in view of the low pressure triggered rains, there is no threat of flood, Engineer-in-Chief of Water Resources department Jyotirmaya Rath said on Friday. Several rivers are on the rise, but there is no flood like situation in the state, said Rath. The water levels of two rivers are flowing over red mark. The Baitarani river was flowing at 18.85 at Akhuapada over danger mark of 17.83 meters and similarly water level of Jalaka river is on the rise due to heavy rain. However, there is no possibility of flood, the Engineer-in-Chief said. The water inflow into Hirakud dam stood at 2,85,000 cusecs per second and the outflow was 2,33,000 cusecs per second. Malkangiri, Sundargarh and Nabarangpur districts have received over two inches rainfall in the last 24 hours.
