Security personnel, Maoists exchange fire in Odisha

Rayagada, Jan 27: A Maoist camp was busted in the district following an exchange of fire between Maoists and security personnel, said police on Monday. However, the red rebels managed to flee from the spot. No casualty has been reported. Police seized a huge cache of ammunition and several articles from Niyamgiri hill forest during search operation. Acting on a tip-off regarding running of a Maoist camp, a combing operation was launched inside the Niyamgiri forest area last evening, said Rayagada district Superintendent of Police (SP) Saravana Vivek M. The Maoists opened fire at the security personnel who immediately retaliated, he added. The red rebels escaped detonating two IED explosives inside the forest that triggered blast, he concluded adding combing operation has been intensified in the area.
