Kandhamal: A Class-VIII girl student delivered a baby girl in a residential school hostel in Kandhamal district following which its headmistress and three assistant superintendents were suspended and one ANM and two matrons were dismissed for alleged negligence.
The Class VIII student of the State-run school had delivered a baby in the hostel on Saturday.
Following the incident, the Kandhamal district Collector suspended three Assistant Superintendents and dismissed a health worker (ANM) and two matrons.
The Collector also wrote to State Government recommending further stringent action against headmistress Radharani Dalai. The Collector also directed Baliguda Sub-Collector to conduct probe and submit report within 10 days.
Meanwhile a youth was detained by police in connection with the incident.
The youth identified as Sraban Pradhan is a student of Daringibadi College.
The girl gave birth to a baby girl last night. Later, the administration brought the infant and the mother to hospital this morning.
After the news came to fore, irate locals staged a demonstration and blocked NH-59 demanding probe and immediate arrest of the accused involved in the incident.
Vehicular traffic between Daringbadi and Berhampur and other parts of the district was adversely affected due to the road blockade agitation.
Later, SC and ST Development Minister Ramesh Majhi ordered Kandhamal Collector to conduct a probe under what circumstances the incident occurred and submit a report at the earliest.
