Bhubaneswar: In a major jolt to the Odisha Government, the Supreme Court on Friday upheld the Orissa High Court’s direction that stopped the Government from allotting more than 50 per cent of reserved seats to SCs, STs and backward classes in non-scheduled areas in the coming local body election.
Notably, the State Government had moved the apex court against the High Court order about two months back.
According to information, altogether 90 urban local bodies will go to the polls in November-December this year.
Notably, the lawyers are on the strike since August 29 demanding arrest of the police personnel involved in attack on advocate Debi Prasad Patnaik on August 28 here.
Meanwhile, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh suspended two Constables – BK Samal and UK Bhuyan and Havildar PK Behera in connection with the attack on the lawyer.
However, the lawyers are demanding arrest of the police personnel.
