Kendrapara: The two girls, who tied the nuptial knot on Saturday in the district, the first of its kind same sex marriage in Odisha, today threatened to commit suicide if attempts to separate them are made.
The two girls, during counselling by Pattamundai Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), said that they got married as per Supreme Court guidelines and threatened to take extreme step in case of attempts to separate them are taken.
After Supreme Court’s historic verdict decriminalising ‘homosexuality’ under section 377 of the IPC, the two girls tied the nuptial knot.
According to sources, a girl from Mahakalpara block and another from Pattamundai block developed a strong liking for each other. With the passage of time, their bond grew stronger and they decided to marry each other.
In the presence of a notary, the two got married after submitting separate affidavits.
However, on Sunday, the father of the girl belonging to Pattamundai lodged an FIR at Pattamundai police station alleging that her daughter was forced and lured for the marriage.
