New Delhi, Apr 11: Former team India trainer Ramji Srinivasan has revealed that he has never seen Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma go crazy behind weight training.
He said that these days there seems to be a different kind of passion for weight training, which is beyond his comprehension. Although it can be beneficial for some players, it is not the only way for fitness.
Ramji has been a part of the team that won the 2011 World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy.
He said that Sachin, Virender Sehwag, Dhoni and Rohit used to go to the gym, but all had different reasons. None of them do weight training. Sachin focuses on strengthening the wrists and shoulders, while Dhoni is naturally fit. Injuries in Dhoni’s career can be counted on his fingers.
The former trainer also said that Virender Sehwag knew what his body wants and something similar is also with Rohit. Rohit has never been seen lifting weights in the gym and he can hit long sixes like Yuvraj Singh.
Ramji said about Zaheer Khan that he was a cricketer who knew about every muscle of his body. As a fast bowler, he knew what kind of training he needed. So that the hamstrings can be avoided and the waist kept strong.
He said that the biggest problem is that it is forgotten that what may prove beneficial for one, does not necessarily benefit the other players as well.
Jadeja leads Virat Kohli is considered the fittest player in the current team India, but Ramji has placed Ravindra Jadeja in the forefront in terms of fitness and fielding.
He told that Jadeja never does weight training. But despite this, his throw is worth watching at the time of fielding. The secret of his fitness is bee seen through his fast run and throw.
