Bhubaneswar: Re-polling will be held in four polling stations Sundergarh and Nayagarh districts as polling party personnel mistakenly cross-paired VVPAT machines of Lok Sabha with EVMs meant for Assembly election.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar said that he has recommended the Election Commission for repolling in booth no-213 in Sundergarh and 129 in Bonai Assembly segment under Sundergarh parliamentary constituency (PC) and 210 and 222 in Daspalla Assembly constituency under Kandhamal PC.
He admitted that EVMs did not have faults but there were lapses on part of poll officials. Eh said that action will be taken against those responsible for dereliction of duty.
Giving an instance of ‘human error’ at booth no 129 in Bonai, Kumar said since Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are being held simultaneously in Odisha two machines are being used for the purpose. “One of the EVM machines showed ‘low voltage’ signal. So it had to be replaced. When the repairs were being made, the Section Officer mistakenly cross-paired the VVPAT machine of Lok Sabha with EVM meant for Assembly,” said Kumar.
Later, this fault was noticed by a voter when his vote for Assembly candidate went to Lok Sabha. Polling is being held for five Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly segments in the second phase today.
