Bhubaneswar: AICC president Rahul Gandhi will visit Odisha to address an election rally in Digapahandi in Ganjam district on April 9, informed OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik today.
This will be Gandhi’s third visit to the State this year. He had earlier addressed a rally at Tomando on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on January 24 and visited Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district and Rourkela in Sundergarh district on February 6 ahead of elections.
Despite Rahul’s visit to Odisha, the State Congress, which had found a much-needed boost from the electoral successes in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, is now struggling hard to keep its house in order.
Former Chief Minister J B Patnaik’s son Pruthvi, social worker Muktikant Biswal from Rourkela and former Pipili MLA Yudhistir Samantaray refused to contest the ensuing Assembly polls after getting tickets putting the party in an embarrassment.
The party’s nominee for Tirtol assembly seat, Bibhu Prasad Tarai, too resigned in a huff alleging irregularities in distribution of tickets.
The State goes to poll in four phases on April 11, 18, 23 and 29. Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are being held simultaneously in the State.
