Bhubaneswar: Cuttack Nagar Congress president Mohammed Moquim and 16 others, who were arrested for ransacking Purighat Police Station, were granted bail by Cuttack Sub-Divisional Judical Magistrate (SDJM) court today.
They were accused of ransacking the Purighat police station and manhandled the police personnel in protest of the arrest Bijay Kumar Barik, who tried to barge into the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) office during the ‘Bharat Bandh’ observed by the Congress on September 10.
Following the arrest nearly 50-60 persons led by Mohammed Moquim entered the station premises and ransacked it. They also staged a road blockade in front of the police station demanding release of Barik.
Police arrested Mohammed Moquim and three corporators – Giribala Behera, Arun Sethi and Samir Munda – from different places along with the 13 other Congress workers and supporters.
