Puri: Alarm bells have been ringing in the coastal district of Puri after four carcasses of fowls were tested positive for bird flu today.
“Of the 20 chicken samples sent to Bhopal for testing, four were found positive. Four villages have been declared bird flu-affected in Krushnaprasad block,” informed Fisheries and ARD Department Secretary Vishal Gagan.
He asserted that there is no need to panic as these chickens were not supplied to markets.
In view of the avian influenza, the Puri district administration has issued instructions not to serve eggs in mid-day meals in schools and anganwadi centres in the affected areas.
Culling of birds will be carried out by eight teams in Sanasahi, Maluda and Patharaganja areas from tomorrow, sources said.
Similarly, sale of chicken has been restricted within 10 km radius of the affected areas.
