Bolangir: Punjilal Meher, the prime accused in the parcel bomb case of Patnagarh that killed newly-wed Soumya Sekhar Sahu and his grandmother, was taken back to the Bolangir District Jail after his discharge from the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital here.
He was admitted to hospital here after he was taken ill due to the hunger strike on February 16.
Earlier on February 8, Meher was shifted to the Bolangir District Jail after he was accused of masterminding an alleged escape bid by seven prisoners at the Patnagarh Sub-Jail on January 24.
However, Punjilal alleged that he was tortured mentally and physically by the authorities at the Patnagarh Sub-Jail. He was on hunger strike from February 7.
Punjilal, an English lecturer, was arrested April 25 last year by the Crime Branch for planning and executing the parcel bomb blast. He held a grudge against Soumya’s mother Sanjukta as she was promoted to the Principal’s post at the Jyoti Bikash College in Patnagarh where he was working as lecturer. Punjilal had reportedly planned to eliminate the entire family.
Meanwhile, Crime Branch submitted the final chargesheet in connection with the case recently.
