Protest spreads across the country against JNU violence; supporters of ABVP and NSUI clash at Ahmedabad

New Delhi, Jan 7: The protest against the violence at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday is spreading. Today, demonstrations were staged at several places across the country over the issue. On the other hand, supporters of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Student Union of India (NSUI) clashed at Ahmedabad today, in which ten students were injured. JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar has called upon the students to forget the past and start anew, criminal cases have been registered against the varsity's students union president Aishe Ghosh for inciting violence. {"id":23348,"sizeSlug":"large"} Today, supporters of two rival student organizations ABVP and NSUI clashed with lathi when NSUI activists were on a protest dharna in front of the ABVP office at Ahmedabad. On the other hand, Delhi police has filed criminal cases against the JNU student union president Aishe Ghosh and 19 others on the charge of widespread ransacking of varsity properties and attacking the security guards on Sunday (January 5). Prohibitory orders under section 144 Cr PC have been promulgated outside the varsity campus. However, JNU vice chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar said there was no place of violence in this university known for debate and discussion. Hindu Raksha Dal leader Pinki Choudhary took responsibility for the violence inside the JNU campus on January 5."JNU is a hotbed of anti-national activities, we can't tolerate this. We take full responsibility of the attack in JNU and would like to say that they were our workers," said Pinki Choudhary. Police is investigating into the purported statement of Choudhary. {"id":23349,"sizeSlug":"large"} Several students staged a protest demonstration against the JNU violence in front of the Gateway of India at Mumbai. A girl student was seen holding a poster saying "Free Kashmir". Several film actors and actresses had also participated in the demonstration. Students of Jadavpur University in West Bengal clashed with police while staging demonstration over the issue and police caned the violent students to disperse them.
