Protest against police brutality during Covid-19 raid

Sonepur, Sep 5: Movement of traffic was disrupted following a road-blockade by locals at Birmaharajpur in the district by locals protesting against police brutality on a breakfast centre owner.

Vehicular movement through the Sonepur-Redhakhol road was disrupted following the protest.

According to reports, a team of Birmaharajpur police headed by sub-inspector Vijay Barik during regular Covid-19 patrolling had allegedly manhandled a breakfast centre owner on Friday evening for not wearing mask.

During the tussle between police and the shop owner, hot oil sprinkled on the shopkeeper, who sustained injuries.

Irate over the incident, the locals blocked the road today.

On the other hand, Birmaharajpur police station IIC Prabha Dhan said the shopkeeper Sundam was trying to flee from his shop during the raid and the hot oil sprinkled on him when our team tried to nab him.
