Preparations on for hanging of Nirbhaya case convicts; butter being applied to the rope to keep it soft

New Delhi, Jan 11: The officers and staff of Tihar Jail-III are busy preparing for the execution of death sentence of four convicts in Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case scheduled on January 22 morning. According to jail officials, the convicts will be hanged for half an hour in the gallows till the doctor declares them dead. There after, the bodies will be brought down. To keep the rope to be used for execution, butter is being applied to it. The rope will be kept in a steel box. Senior officials of the jail, medical officer and the psychiatrist will be present at the spot at the time of hanging. Nobody else can remain present other than these persons. The warder of the jail will bring the death convict up to the gallows. Then, the death convict's legs will be tied with rope and a black cloth will be covered over his face, The magistrate will put his signature after going through the death sentence for the last time. The convict will be hanged after the Jail Superintendent gives the cue.
